EVENTS | Thailand GCircuit Songkran 2024 - Shangayla: World of Fantasy

What exactly is GCircuit Songkran?

Songkran is an annual Buddhist festival in Thailand that joyfully ushers in the new year by dousing people with water, symbolizing blessings and good fortune. The word "Songkran" itself is derived from Sanskrit, signifying "passing" or "approaching." Over time, Songkran has become intertwined with GCircuit, Asia's premier gay party organizer since 2007. Songkran GCircuit is now hailed as one of Thailand's grandest gay festivals, spanning nearly a week and featuring spectacular concerts, top-tier DJs, and mesmerizing shows. The heart of the GCircuit festivities beats in the nighttime, with the most significant events taking place on Friday and Saturday evenings, graced by internationally renowned DJs.

This event provides an exceptional opportunity for gay men from across the globe to come together, fostering mutual understanding of the LGBTQ+ experience in diverse cultures. Beyond its lively celebrations, Songkran GCircuit can be viewed as a contemporary pilgrimage for the global gay community, reinforcing our presence in the world despite ongoing challenges and discrimination.

EVENTS | Beats By The Beach with DJ Franck Chartier, at Muscat Hills Resort

Beats By The Beach with DJ Franck Chartier, at Muscat Hills Resort

A friend sent me a WhatsApp message to attend "Beach By The Beach" on Jan. 26th in
Muscat Hills Resort and since I enjoy EDM/House mixes, I decided to go. It's been a while since I actually partied in Muscat. Last was in Park Inn during the "Wet Republik 3". And I badly needed to go out and unwind. Friend's invitation came at the right time. Brought with me my new colleague, who just started in our company.

It was around 9pm when I picked a friend from the hotel. I was driving the car, which meant I could not drink for this night. So there I was, ready to go out and drive to Qantab (which is very close to Shangri-La Barr Al Jissah; and I never fail to bring up this point every single time). The road to Qantab via the Ruwi or Al Bustan roads is always a treat for the eyes. What with the winding roads that feel like riding a roller coaster. One time I was sitting as passenger and the driver accelerated; flew the car for about a moment and the feeling was heaven; the same excitement I felt when I was a kid riding those big caterpillars in fairs.

The Barr Al Jissah road, lit with lamp posts every few meters looked like jewels from afar. The drive was swift; not many cars traversing at this day and time (it was a weekend by the way). After a few minutes, we passed by the newly opened Muscat Bay, a posh residential compound aimed to invite expats and locals for a chance to live away from the hustle and bustle of the Muscat city life. The thought didn't really bother me much i.e. living in a far flung location; but at the back of mind is the nagging question, "Who wants to drive that far?". But perhaps it's only me, being my pessimistic self.

EVENT | 2017 UAAP S80 Cheerdance Competition

2017 UAAP S80 Cheerdance Competition

With the recently concluded UAAP S80 Cheerdance Competition, spectators were in for unexpected results. The reigning 4peat champions, NU was slated to grab its 5peat (something only UST has done for the record), but ended up outside the podium after it tied 4th place with FEU. The returning UP Pep Squad was expected to give everyone a run for their money, but disappointingly ending at the 6th spot (a few points away from DLSU); with ADMU consistent with their rank as last.

ARTICLE | Easter and the Resurrection Sunday... A Closer Look at the Festivity

Easter and the Resurrection Sunday... A Closer Look at the Festivity

Happy Easter Sunday!
Or should I say, a meaningful Resurrection Sunday. :)

There are  contentions on the celebration of Easter. To most Roman and Orthodox Catholics, Easter is a feast that celebrates the resurrection of Jesus Christ. To other sects however, Easter is not a Christian celebration and was actually pagan in nature. Some of these Christian denominations that do not celebrate Easter are the Mormons (Seventh Day Adventist Christ) and Jehovah's Witness. To them, Easter was not mentioned in the Bible so it doesn't count as a Christian event.

EVENT | That Special Song of Good Friday

That Special Song of Good Friday

How are you spending this very special time of the year? As for me, I went to the Church with my mom and sister. It was a 4-hour mass at the St. Ferdinand Cathedral but that's okay. I always go with my mom and sister to church every Good Friday. This year is very special because I have not been with them for the last two years, so I am very happy to spend time with them at the Church.

EVENT | The Havaianas Filipinas Collection

The Havaianas Filipinas Collection

Flip flops nowadays are not just utilities for people. As in other clothing accessories, flip flops have evolved into a fashion statement. Gone were the days when one cannot stroll the city streets wearing but flip flops, scared to be judged by others. But Havaianas, the ever so popular brand, has empowered Filipinos the world over in asserting their fashion statements.

EVENT | Gabriel Peri Paul Eluard Gallimard 1966

Finally, we're done with our French poem recital!
And I must say- a job well done, tres bien.

I must also admit that it was both nerve wracking and exciting at the same time. I felt like I was reconnected to my theater side once again, and that I owned the stage that night as if nothing was in front of me (when in fact a crowd of native speakers were all eyes, ready to judge how I'll mess up).

EVENT | A Plea to Help the Philippines

A Plea to Help the Philippines

At times like this, when my country the Philippines is in grave trouble, I know that all acts of kindness will be very much helpful. I am going to devote my blog in order to raise awareness on what's happening to my country so that more and more people can extend hands and give whatever they can. We as a nation cannot depend on the government anymore because politicians are caught in limbo, clueless on what to do on crisis like this. And days have gone by without any much progress. Truth hurts but the government is pretty useless at the moment. So I urge everyone, all netizens of the world to please help us. Many lives have been lost and we just want to save the survivors.

EVENT | 2009 World Pyrolympics

2009 World Pyrolympics

Review

Contender 1: Germany
Germany’s approach to its fireworks display was quite disappointing for two reasons. First is the passé musical scoring, the kind you hear at the entrance of Star Wars and Superman. Well it was at first exciting with the beat and all, but the fireworks just didn’t match with the sound. Second, the fireworks had no order. It was like sent up the air randomly with no reason except to make it look like they are having a pyrolympics. There was just nothing you can get out of Germany’s exhibition. Actually, their performance looks a lot the common New Year celebrations of the Filipinos on New Year’s eve.
